RE: WACO YMF
Thanks for the input, guys.
Evan: I agree with you about the cockpit cutout on the full scale Waco. I have the Paul Matt drawings. However, with the Pica kit, formers 8 & 9 are too close together to allow this scale cockpit size. You would have to redesign former 8 and move it forward a ways to get the proper length and I don't think I want to attempt that.
In the photos of the nice scale YMF that ClayH submitted, that close up shot of the cockpit is how the original YMF cockpit looked. The new Classic YMF has a completely different and more modern instrument panel. The original is the one that I have built for my new model. Also, you can see in this photo how short the cockpit is. And notice that there is no pilot in this one either. So, other than the skinny Tinkerbelle, I guess the shortness of the cockpit makes the use of any pilot not feasable.
Stickbuilder: I figured the ABS plastic aileron covers would look cheesy any way you used them but I would like to figure a way to replicate them since they are a distinctive feature of the YMF. That's why I would like to experiment with building an aileron or two using them for sheeting just to see what they would be like. Maybe I could put some sheeting between the ribs for strength and the plastic on top of them...??? Also, would the ABS look as good as the rest of the model after painting?
I will check out the model railroad angle that Evan is referring to. We have sources around here.
BTW I would like to post some pictures but after five years of using RCU, I still can't figure out how to do it. Guess I'm the original dummy. Can anyone help?
