Fuel line length from tank to carb?
Hi all,
I recently finished a Hanger 9 P-51 ARF and installed a Saito 100. I went against the plans by installing the tank back over the CG to alleviate a nose heavy aircraft during takeoff, better CG during flight etc. When empty the plane is perfectly balanced, and full it has just a slight nose heavy indication (upside-down balance). My question is the extra length required in fuel lines. Currently the feed line is ~ 11 inches total, from tank- to fuel valve- to carb. Haven't flown the airplane but have used 1/2 gallon of fuel for break-in. I placed the tank the best I could to have it at carb centerline, used medium fuel line etc. It seems to run great "chained to the ground", but I was curious of any "rule of thumb" issues with the length etc...
Obviously I have heard/read in general that the shorter tubing the better. The saito muffler does pressurize the tank nicely and it does not appear to have any fuel starvation issues at wide open throttle. This is the first plane I have built that required that long of a fuel line, just thought I would solicit your ideas / wisdom. As soon as weather permits, the true test will take place... :-)
Thanks
