Default RE: engine trouble

Ha! Running in! Its a bit of an art. Itś best to run the engine in under load (i.e. drive it around) Theres a lot of theories, but just remember the purpose of running in - new metal is soft and requires hardening through the process of running in. So, make sure its smokey (will ensure that there is oil running through the engine) and take it easy for a few tanks. (Don´t thrash it at first, the soft metal will wear away quickly and ruin a new engine) Then after 4 or so tanks, give it bursts of full power and gradually build up over the next few tanks. PS dont let the tank run dry; it will run out of fuel and suddenly run lean and go out of control, plus maybe not enough oil will be running through the engine and it might seize (not good).

I´m a brit myself, and I know its cold there now (and windy as I understand it to be right now) so make sure you warm the engine up properly, it will be hard to start first though. Put the glow plug heater on it and run the engine just over idle (like a choke on a car, with the rc on a stand or a brick or whatever) until the cylinder head is very hot to the touch. Take care so that the heater doesn´t run out of battery. Then drive the car. After running in tune the carb so that at least a little smoke is coming out of the exhaust. With any luck you have a low speed needle.

If you have any q´s see my site and email me, or reply here.
