Norvel 110138 Freedom XL too large diameter;

I have what appears to be an early AME 061. No muffler tap, muffler wire w/out curved ends and oval glued carb. I purchased a Norvel 110138 glow plug and it is too large of a diameter for my head. What's up with this? Did I get an improperly machined glow plug or are the heads different. I must add the 061 is one great little engine with much lower idle than I expected.
