Default RE: If you buy planes PLEASE post tips/experiences

I've applied a light clear coat to prevent the covering designs from lifting on my Ultimates.

I did this before the build, but you could do it afterwards.

I did not "scuff" the covering, I just made sure the model was extremely clean.

The covering on the Ultimates tends to loosen\give with exposure to Nitro and repeated cleanings with Windex.

That is why I am wondering if you are going to do anything about the covering.

Others at RCU advocated doing this on these planes and so I did.

The wing mounts problem was/is with the Pitts .40 NP sells. I have one and see this too.

The strut retainers are offset from one another by about 1/2".... upper wing retainers being 1/2" further out from center than the lower ones.

That would put the struts at an angle... but there is one problem... the retainers themselves are perfectly vertical!

A design flaw... which fortunately is easy to correct. (Nitrostaff please talk to the factory...).

If you attempt to install the wooden struts as directed they would be bent and eventually break from the force...

The fix is to install a 1/2" wood block on the upper strut retainer, and use a longer screw bolt to hold the strut perpendicular to the wings... unlike the real Pitts however...
