Default RE: DL-50cc Gas Engine

I finally got mine in today. So here's the story.

Shipping was pretty slow, and packing was moderate (see pictures). I weighed the engine alone and it was right at 2lb 15.75oz (3lb). The muffler, ignition, and mount put it right at 3.5 lbs. I will post the exact weights a little later.

Grinding Wheel???:
Temp tonight was around 40deg, 300ft ASL, xoar 22x8 prop. Primed the engine, choked it, flipped and.... POW! It fired the first flip. You really should have seen our faces. After fighting with my Zenoah and my friend’s Fuji and DA this thing was incredible! Two flips later it was purring right along at 1700rpm. Head temps stayed around 160-170deg. A Very Very smooth running engine. The manual states that the "Grinding Wheel" (break in) for this engine is 2 hours at 2000rpm and 2 hrs at 4000pm. Well, I did my two hours at 2000rmp, and it took about three 16oz tanks. I ran another tank and a half at 4000rpm and I couldn’t take it anymore! I let her loose. The throttle response was quite impressive. With the engine running so rich it was spitting all kinds of oil, it was turning right at 7000. I expect this to get better when I quit running Lawn Boy and lean it out. When I feel like it is broken in good and I get her tuned right, I'll post some figures.

My overall impression:
This is a good engine, total flying weight at 3.6 lb, first flip starting, for $370 you really can’t beat it. As far as the instructions go... let's just say that you need to read them with a friend, they are hilarious!! With lots of exciting and interesting terms, like Grinding Wheel.

Some other notes:
When you drill a prop for this engine use a DA prop jig, the bolt pattern is exactly the same. If you ever need to replace a bolt on this thing it is going to be a 10-32. Very nice looking smooth running engine, I am proud of it. I don't know the total power of this thing yet, but as soon as the other hour of "Grinding Wheel" time is up I'll let you guys know.

BTW: With this ignition, a 400mah 4.8volt battery will last aprox 2hrs at idle
For the pictures I have removed my personal information that's why the white boxes.

Let me know if you have any questions!
