Default cutout in glassfibercowling

I need to make some cutouts in a glassfiber cowling for the valve covers. (hangar 9 thunderbolt 60size(saito 100)
If I use the cardboard method I can trace the cutouts on the cowling, but I must remove the engine to fit the cowling.
My problem is that this cowling has a dummy radial engine and just a small hole for the drive washer to enter out trough.
If I remove the engine and place the cowling at the right distance from the firewall, I am still not shure if the drive washer is centered in the dummy radial engine opening.
Tips pleace anyone?
