I would try replacing the receiver battery pack with a 5-cell hump pack. That should give a bit faster response from the steering servo.

Can you tell if your front it slipping at all during a turn? You may want to adjust the ride height or look into different tires. Offset wheels could give you a bit more range for the steering as well.
