Don't waste the effort trying to go to "America's Hobby Center".
These are decent but depending on where you are in NYC could be a difficult drive:
Bruckner hobby out in the Bronx is good or Hobby Hut on Rt. 23 in Pompton Lakes is great (but figure a minimum 45 min drive)
