Tim, why don't you go by a place that sells trailers and get what they call "bearing buddies". All boat trailers have them. They replace the caps on the spindels with a cap that is spring loaded with a grease fitting and you don't have to pack the bearings. Just give them a shot with a grease gun. Take your old cap with you as there are different sizes.
Do a Google search "bearing buddies" some sporting goods stores also sell them.
