Default RE: Survey-Youngest to Oldest Pilots

well, like most of us I started with an .049 c/l plane at about 12. I've been involved in the cars for what seems like forever but I always wanted a plane. The GP J-3 cub was the dream. Finally I bought myself one at 27 as my first plane. It clearly states in the manual that a cub is not a trainer. I should have listened. I also ignored the idea of getting an instructor for at least the first few flights. Also a big mistake. First flight scared the **** out of me and I flipped the plane on the landing. One new prop later I tried flying again with shaking knees. I tip stalled it and crashed on take off.

I have two tips for first timers. Get a trainer and an instructor!

I'm thirty now and hooked for life.
