I always replace the ring once the engine is run in, This will keep it sharp, It takes 10 minutes to run a new ring in. Then i replace the ring after every 8 hours, This is not a must but if you want to keep top performace then its worth doing. Also it would depend on who has tuned the engine, Some tuners will run the engine in for you so its ready to thrash.
