With all due respect... start by going to the local field and talk to someone that knows the local hobby shops.
Even go so far as to have then go with you to buy a system that is in the 72 Mhz band and a plane to go along with it.
It would seem like you have bought a system from Toys R Us - give it to a local kid and move up into a higher standard of models.
YES; you will pay more, BUT you will get more out of it.
More fun, More reliability, fewer crashes, longer presence in the RC hobby and in the long run it will be much less expensive than the alternative.
Sorry for being so blunt, but I have seen too many Newbees show up at the field with the wrong systems and try to make it work - starting with the proper tools makes it easier for everyone - especially YOU!
