You do not have to run the V stack. You may need to shorten the bolts. CHeck that to be sure they do not bottom out. But with the carb inside the cowel, the stack is not needed. It is a matter of opinion how effective they are. I know if the carb is hanging out in the wind, they help a bunch. If in the cowel, it is not too critical.
