I think the mounting plate is a great idea.... is it new? To be most effective in protecting the engine from bending forces in the event of a noseover or worse, it should use seperate mounting holes for the standoffs, otherwise it would just be another spacer..... if made in thick good quality plywood that should be fine...(or better?)
