In just about every club I've been in there was at least one guy who loves to build. He brings his planes out to the field, lets someone else fly them (Just to say "It has been flown" ) then he hangs them up in his house.

Not everyone is a great flier, but that shouldn't keep anyone from enjoying the hobby
