I put my E-board from Tower under the microscope for visual inspection. I used to do a lot of QA for soldering issues.
It looked pretty good but there was a nasty solder splash on the right leg of the big power FET. I whipped out the trusty Weller and surgically touched up the lead, leaving it shiny and mil-spec.
The power input leads have too much solder and they look very close to shorting - but I went over all the inputs and outputs with an Ohmmeter and detirmined the unit was safe to install.
I replaced the micro Dean's with an Ultra Dean's to match my LiPo, and proceeded with the bench test.
With radio on, after power connected I got a green light in 3 seconds! Great! My old one sometimes could take a couple minutes, never less than 20 seconds or so...
I verified servo action and then fired up the mains. Tail is smooth!!
I shut down and dialed in max Gyro Gain. The tail twitches!!
I shut down and dialed in minimal Gain. The tail is sloppy!!! SUCCESS!!! [sm=tongue_smile.gif]
Woo hoo!! Got that one right!! I probably should not have been flying around over 100' up with a defective e-board, huh??? [&:]
Hopefully, I can sneak in some hover practice in the clubhouse after dinner...
