Come on Cronic, tells us what you really think, don't hold back anything

Yeah I guess that was a little harsh, huh? I could have just said there were better choices available, but then I wouldn't have had as much fun typing it.
Einarak, the "top 10 engines" list is kind of old. While the info contained is still beneficial, the actual engine list is somewhat dated at this point. If you think the SH sounds like a good choice, then get the newer 6 port SH .28 Prospec instead of the older 3 port that's on the list. Not only does it make more power across a broader range, they also eliminated the old connecting rod flying through the side of the block that SH big block engines were known for at the time. The 6 port version is sold under several labels... the SH .28 Prospec, LRP Z.28R Spec 2, XTM 457, Nosram .28 Monster... all the same engine, so find the cheapest version and roll with it. A step up from that would be the 8 port, the LRP Z.28R Spec
3. Both of those engines are very easy to live with, economical, and they make more power than you really need in a Savage.
I'm not a fan of the bigger displacement engines in Savages, and that is mostly the reason for my bad opinion of the CEN engine for this application. The thing makes less horsepower than the SH, and can't spin up nearly as hard. The only advantage is the extra lowend grunt, but there are several disadvantages. Just how much lowend grunt do you actually need in an 11lb truck that has a broad range of gearing available and a three speed option? It's just wasted unless your truck is wearing big big tires and it weighs a whole bunch.
