Disabling on board sound has allowed me to fly the funtana 40 for example which caused me to crash instantly before. The FPS has not changed on the other aircraft.
Now there is another problem though. When I attempt to fly a heli, I press Fly, the sim pauses for a moment as if beginning to load, then the aircraft continues spinning around in 3D view etc. as if I had not done anything. When I attempted to fly a training session, it began loading but then returned to the pre-flight menu before loading. It did not crash my computer or the program, but these flights just would not load. Interestingly I could load the training sessions before disabling on board sound, but they would just crash as soon as I began.
Sometimes, when there is a problem, the sim can catch it and not crash to the desktop. However, many times when this occurs -- such as when the sim pauses for a moment as if beginning to load, and then the aircraft continues spinning around in 3D view, as you report -- the sim cannot fully recover. When you see this occur, it's best to exit from the sim and then simply restart the sim. After restarting the sim, can you then fly a lesson as you did previously?
However, FS One does expect a computer to have a sound card, so if no sound card is present (such as when it is disabled), that in itself may cause a problem. It's hard to say what will happen is every case with all of the many variations of hardware.
We have received a few reports about issues with Realtek or SB Audigy sound cards. In some cases, getting an updated driver fixes things. In other cases, reducing the sound acceleration can provide a fix. We've been looking into this problem now for months and are trying to come up with a work around for these driver issues with a fix in our software. However, we do know of issues with other computer games that have problems with each of these cards -- the intersting thing is that Microsoft indicated that the sound drivers were not up to spec (in some cases) and recommended reducing sound acceleration, just as we have recommended. In any case, we're still looking for a better fix.
Try to find an updated driver, if at all possible. It is quite likely that a driver fix will fix your problem. Most problems like this come down to a driver issue.
