Yep! I remember being delayed almost 2 hours at Charlotte NC seeing my plane (F27) waiting for an open gate because of the passenger surge in the terminal. None of the big ones, just the regionals and comuter stuff. The plane was actually early, but they were having problems getting planes in front of it unloaded and loaded. Bigger isn't always better.
