Default Creating a custom RC Car Stand

Hey guys,

Well this week I felt creative and I created my own custom RC stand. I wanted a solid stand for my vehicle. I am not keen of the plastic stands available out there and the solid aluminum stands are very expensive. In the $100 range or so. So I figure I would challenge myself in creating my own custom RC stand. Here is my new proud and joy!

My custom made TILT/SWIVEL RC VEHICLE STAND

Supplies used to create this stand:

- (x1) Old unused microphone stand (for the stand legs and post)
- (x1) Unused BELL Satellite Dish Roof Bracket (for the car base)
- (x1) 6" strip of rubber floor carpet runner (for the rubber pad on the car base)
- (x1) Locktit glue (to stick the rubber pad on top of the car base)
- (x1) Galvonized steel wall light swith cover (for the parts tray)
- (x1) Set of (3) magnetic disc (to put in the parts tray and for the magnet plate on front of unit)
- (x1) Velcro strip (to add at the bottom of the parts tray for some grip & good looks)
- (x1) Small metal bracket (to hold the parts tray to the stand)
- (x1) Can of "black" tremclad metal paint (to repaint the old scratched up mic stand & satellite bracket)
- (x1) Automotive car sticker set from Canadian Tire (to add some bling to the stand)
- Some bolts, metal washers, rubber washers & wing nutz (to assemble the stand to the vehicle base)

Tools used to create this stand:

- Drill
- Dremel with various cutting disc, grinding stones, etc.
- Utility Knife
- Allen Key

Well it was a fun project and now I am satisfied. I probably only spent around $20 in total expense to purchase my missing items. The rest was stuff I had sitting around the house not being used. A bonus is this stand has holders for tools, magnetic screw holder on front, magnetic parts tray, folding tripod legs for transportation to the track, tilt and swivel base to make things easy when working on your car, and its made of steel and very solid.

The things you can do when you put your mind to it, eh?
