Default RE: What is your favorite brand radio and why?

Kraft!

I agree with MikeL - being loyal to one brand for the sake of being loyal to it is being closed minded

I was always a Futaba user. I didn't want JR. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but there are two big differences that affect me. One is that the plugs are different, and the other is the reversed polarity of JR's Tx Charging jack

This may not sound like much, but it can be a major hassle. Here's why:

As I said, I always used Futaba. But doing reviews for Horizon products, I felt bad that I was using their competitor's radios in their planes, so I bought a few JR radios. So now I have both. And I have to admit that I like the JR stuff very much. There are things about both that are good and bad and I would be hard-pressed to pick which one I like better.

What sucks is owning BOTH brands. Because now, if I'm using a Futaba radio and I need a "Y" cord, I have to have a Futaba "Y" cord. I might have 3 JR "Y" cords sitting on my bench, but the plugs don't match.

Ok, fine, I can cut the tabs off of the Futaba plug and now they fit, but it's a hassle. And it never fails that it happens when I'm in a hurry, so it's a time-wasting hassle.

What's worse is the polarity issue. It never fails that whichever system needs charging, I only have the other charger at hand (With two workshops and a garage you never know where I was using something last).

And my Accu-cycle? Let me tell you about the time I DISCHARGED my JR Tx the night before a fun-fly because I forgot to reverse the wires.

(Hey, JR, What in the hell were you thinking when you polarized your plug opposite from the way EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD DOES IT???? )

Futaba has a circuit that prevent's accidental discharging, JR doesn't.

So the botom line is, They are all good. But sticking to one brand will slow down the insanity proceess.
