What about 2 separated fuel tanks? One for engine start and take off, with usual fuel, and the other with smoke fluid for the rest of the flight.
Then the plane can be easily landed with the engine off.
Now the question is how to make a the second tank supply the fuel after the first gets empty in sequence and with no interruption.
