Is the ship you are hoping to build a new ship, or a used British or American fleet ship.
Often you can find plans for the British or American versions of the ship. Sometime a kit.

If it is a new ship, this is possible.
For instance, the Australian Huon class MHC, it may be possible to research and find line drawings for the British Sandown Class, or the American Osprey class ships. Then make the supersturcture, or drive system changes needed to create an Australian Navy version of the ship.
