HAN1875 Giant Skylane
I suppose I got lucky and have acquired one already. I must agree, it is a fine looking craft. I mounted a Saito 180, inverted in mine and have had to cut only a small portion of the cowl. As ARF’s go, this was somewhat of a challenge. It is however, a very large, heavy plane. The recommended spinner for this model is a ultimate spinner. However, I was unable to get a Tru-Turn 3-blade spinner in the 3 ¼” size. Depending on the modelers choice, you can use a 2 or 3 blade prop. Both are accurate in the full scale version. I prefer the looks of a three blade and opted for a non-scale Tru-Turn 3 blade.
The only complaint I have about it is the engineering of the control linkage on the rudder. It is made in such a way the it put a tremendous strain on the servo, pulling almost max current, (on mine,) just to move the surface. I can get the recommended deflection in one direction only. I am using 90oz servos. This is more than enough to handle this model. Because of this problem, I am forced to keep this plane on the ground until this engineering problem is worked out. Along with deflecton problems, there is an excessive amount of “free play.”
Overall, It is a gorgeous plane, well worth the 500 it costs. For the most part, Hangar 9 did good.
