CAUTION!!!!!

This GWS tail mod is trickier then it may appear. First some stats. Stock tail assemblt is 17g. GWS Tail assembly is 24g. That's why she don't balance. So I cut my boom so I had exactly 10.5 inches from the rear of the frame to the end of the boom. I mock all the GWS stuff on, moved battery tray fully forward and with canopy on I am at a perfect CG. Ok, all looks good. Solder the wires, glue the tail motor mount, spooll it up on the bench. All looks good. Things went down hill from here.

I set it down on my smooth concrete floor and slowly began to spool it up. At about 1/4 throttle, the tail WHIPS around counterclockwise and plastic pieces fly off. Spool it back down and assess the damage. What I believe happened was the proportional and gain were up too high for the torque of this motor. Mind you I had both mine set at about mid way on the pots. When the tail whipped around, the verticle fin bent and kicked it into the prop. This caused the tips of the prop to brake off, see attached pics. No problem I said, remember those extra motor mount and prop I ordered? I can use these I think, and start with the gain and proportional turned way down. Well, I'll be darned, they sent me the WRONG spare prop. The spare is too large! Good thing I kept the stock tail assembly in tact. I have a spare boom and will install everything back to original until I get another prop.

Lessons to be learned: Start with your gain and proportional WAY DOWN when spooling up for the first time, the new tail motor has TONS of torque! The stock verticle fin is WAY too Flimsly. I think Choppers has a good idea with cutting and reusing the stock tail fin. It is much stronger then the GWS one.
