SV 27 - Hull cracking
Greetings,
I received my Super Vee 27 today and upon removing it from the box I noticed that the transom above the rudder assembly appears cracked.
When I backlight it with a flashlight from the inside of the hull, and look at it from the outside of the hull, it appears there is a crack from above the rudder mount to where the steering arm exits the hull. The crack also appears to extend the width of the rudder assembly to starboard and then the glass layup appears to layup flaw beyond that. Running my finger nail up the outside of transom I can feel the crack.
Is this a major concern? Should I send it back or is it an easy fix? If it's an easy fix, what should I use to fix it?
I'm inclined to return it, however the since supply of the boats are basically on backorder until mid-June I'm half tempted to fix it - besides it's likely a whole lot easier to fix it than replacing the floor / transom in my 16' Sidewinder was last winter.
My other concern is this... the rudder isn't mounted vertically when looking at it from astern.
When I place a square beside the rudder there is a 1/2" difference to port between the square and the rudder. Ie. looking at the stern of the boat instead of the rudder pointing through 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock the top of the rudder would be around 1 o'clock and the bottom around 7 o'clock. Is this normal? I would have expected the rudder to be mounted in a vertical position, but perhaps this is set-up this way to run an over course.
Any info will greatly be appreciated!
Cheers,
Jaak
