Which type of Futaba transmitter are you refering to?
Almost any Futaba transmitter will work except for the FG series. I use the Conquest or Attack series primarily and have had no problems. I have bought good used transmitters for as little as $10 at a swap meet.
All you need is the basic shell. You don't need a battery, antenna, or charger in most cases. As long as the gimbles (sticks) are in good shape and the case is cosmetically sound, you will be in good shape.
You can probably get a better deal by buying through the "For Sale" forum here or on one of the other sites. By browsing the forums, you know the price that is being asked and you are not competing for the right to buy the product as you do with the auction sites.
