Lanier Dart mods
Hi guys,
I picked up an incomplete Lanier Dart for a song and a dance on Ebay. Didn't have tail feathers, put I've whipped some up in 2 evenings with foam core and balsa sheeting. Other than the floats I scratched last week, it's my first attempt at scratch building anything plane oriented. They appear to be straight and true, and they do have an airfoil. That was a real challenge to make an airfoil with foam by sanding! No plans, or anything, but I did have the 'tail clamp' to guide me.
I was thinking about putting some over sized tail (possibly wing) control surfaces on this thing for fun. I have read that it is a heavy plane, and that the plastic breaks out in a season or two, but that's OK, I don't expect it to last forever (that's what my 4* is for). But would like to have some fun with it, as it has no dihedral, and will be a challenge to fly it compared to my SS 60 and 4*. Can this thing do anything 3D? Give me some info if you've had experience. I'm fitting it for a Thunder Tiger .61. I read on another post were a guy can do 'Lomcevaks' with it. I understand that a heavy plane helps in this manuever, or any type of tail over roll. Is a .61 big enough? I've got a Saito 100 that I was going to put on my 4* this spring, but if it would pull this plane along better, maybe I should break it in on it?
Whaddya guys think?
