Ken,

The mail just came and I got the info from Claude M. The plane Claude modeled was a rare S3HD-A, s/n 3954, Cuban Military s/n 23, completed July 30, 1935. S=Pratt & Whitney 9 Cylinder Wasp Jr 420-450hp Engine (400hp indicated in drawings), 3 = would indicate the higher 450 hp engine, H = all "D" series, D = Military Series 1934-1937, -A = Armed variants of the "D" series. According to Claude's documentation, there was only this one S3HD-A built and it crashed shortly after being delivered to the Cuban Military. The subject aircraft was basically the same as the WHD-A except it had the vertical tail from the YOC custom cabin series. Airfoil was the Clark "Y", with modification to reflex the trailing edge in areas of the ailerons and center section. The ailerons were interchangable between upper and lower wings. This plane had the 2 centerline cabane struts similar to thase seen on S3HD N 14048 (pictures on Airliners and the National WACO Club sites).
