Here's another, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noH_SOBe0YE a used Tanaka converted to reed induction at the bottom of the case. It's been run on glow fuel, 95% hardware store methanol and 5% Klotz Benol. And also on a blend of 66% gasoline and 34% glow fuel. The excess oil in the glow fuel is diluted to about the right amount by the gasoline. This mix runs just fine on a glow plug.

Also pictured is the result of the first attempt to run it on diesel fuel. OUCH.

The reed inducted version was a little troublesome to start on the glow plug whether full methanol or a blend. So when it came to run it as a diesel,,,,,

I used a pull cord to start it and that works great. But on diesel fuel, I pulled and pulled and pulled. Fuel was a mix of 80% kerosene, 15% ether and 5% Klotz Benol. No matter what though, it wouldn't start. I used a high ether prime and put the compression screw everywhere. No go. So as a last resort, I gave the intake a shot of straight JD Hot Start.

First pull and she caught. But it was grossly overcompressed with a pow, pow, pow and then,,,, BANG with a big puff of smoke coming NOT from the muffler but the front end. Yup, blew the case. But no wonder, I trimmed off some flange material that should have stayed.

I have another used Tanaka and I'll be getting to that as soon as I get up my nerve again.
