I think it would be near impossible to double up the 1/64" tape. I don't know of anything thinner than 1/64th. The only place I used 1/32" was where the upper and lower cowl panels meet, and it was really a bit too wide. For lap panels, I use painters tape and tape along the panel line covering the lower panel. Then spray several coats of primer, feathering in toward the center of the higher panel. When you remove the tape, it leaves a raised panel.
