RE: Great Planes PT-17 Stearman
I electrified one of these (actually the PT-17 version) in 2006, so I can tell you a bit about field setup.
The lower wing bolts on conventionally with two nylon bolts and front dowels. The top wing is held on by four machine bolts going into blind nuts for the cabanes, and by two bolts per side into 90 degree brackets for the interplane struts. The interplane struts are fastened similarly to the lower wing. The flying wires shown are cosmetic only, and are not needed.
The tail is all one piece, and does not disassemble.
The plane takes maybe ten to fifteen minutes to assemble at the field. I substituted the socket head bolts in the kit for button head hex bolts, so the bolt heads on the angle braces wouldn't interfere with each other while putting it together. They also give the attachment points a much cleaner look.
I also JB Welded some nylon insert locknuts to the four interplane attachment angle braces, to avoid fumbling with tiny washers and nuts at the field. A long handled hex driver and a measure of patience is essential for putting in all twelve of these small bolts, but the reward is worth it.
Hope this helps.
