Any one have suggestions about the Landing gear? I know the kit supplied gear is too wide and cracks the fairings. Is there a source for substitute gear or should I bend my own. Thanks.
I had T & T Landing Gear make me a custom gear to fix the wheel stance issue. I went a half inch shorter on the overall height, so I could go to a more scale sized 5" Dubro tire on them. I used the supplied gear as a visual guide for making my own fairings from three plies of thick balsa sheet. I will have to check the thickness of the aluminum stock I asked for, as I don't want to misquote it from memory.
I glued on the balsa fairings with Goop so they would flex a bit if necessary, then sanded to shape, using the stock gear as a guide. I finished them off with 3/4 oz. glass cloth and paint. They look virtually indistinguishable from the stock gear, except the wheels are the right spacing apart now, and there is no bounce on landings that others have had trouble with. I never flew the stock gear, so I can't compare the two in that regard. They are pictured in the photo I posted above. They look a LOT better than the stock ones, IMHO.
I can provide full measurements for it if anyone is interested.
