I just installed a new saito 125 into my extra....and the throttle linkage is on top as well. I use to have a cable on it, but didn't like the "play" as I want instant power when needed. I have investigated a couple different scenarios and thought about changing the carb...not needed. Long story short, go to the hobby shop and buy some of the nylon sleeve stuff. There is an outer sleeve, and then another nylon inner sleeve. Its semi flexible and is perfect for any throttle link. It was cheap, and drilling one hole later, little CA in the old one and voila.
