I am speaking from experience with both engines, not basing my opinion off heresay...
So am I. I had a Spec 3 and I couldn't keep the truck on its tires. It broke the metal output gear in the trans and completely wasted my rear diff and I wasn't driving the truck all that hard when all that happened. It's a powerful engine. I can't compare it to a Picco as I've never had one of those, but the LRP is no slouch and if you have a speed addiction, it will feed it.

If you dont't have both, than your not really in the same boat as supertib.
