RE: Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!
oracus,
I like that idea. I've been using some cold compress pack with a similar idea. However, it can be tricky to bury the motor in the pack with out having the pinion rub. Sounds like you got a winner with the rubber maid freezer packs.
fossoman,
I get about the same flight time using the stock 11.1v 3 cell 800mAh E-Flite LiPo on either my stock CP Pro or CP Pro with G90... about 10-12 mins.
My TREX's flight times are 6-7mins using a 11.1v 3 cell 2150mAh DN Power LiPo. Using my G2 DN Power charger I've been charging to 4.2v and discharging to 3.6v.
Day 2 of 4 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
been flying as much as possible. some wind came up in the early afternoon, but not enough to ground the TREX.... just made it a little trickier to fly.
One of my buddies, that I've been flying CX2 with, fried his ESC the other day. From what he said, after a pretty bad crash, the battery came flying through the front canopy and pulled the JST connection right out of the 4in1. He tried to solder it back, but must have arced the connections for when he plugged in a LiPo, SNAP, CRACKLE, POP!
Rather then fixing up his CX2 he decided on the next step, a Blade CP Pro. Murphy's Law, in less then an hour his first set of blades down the drain. During the pre-flight control check, he accidently bumped the throttle and the heli jumped right off the table and SMACK DOWN right to the floor. I recommend he buy a set of spare sym wood blades and training gear with the heli. A quick change out and he was back in business. No other damage.
I get a call a couple hours later asking if I had a spare tail motor. His story, "while skidding around at the park, the tail rotor and a pine cone got into a fight....needless to say the pine cone won!" Luckily, I had a spare tail motor so he came right over. After changing out the bad tail motor, we spooled it up and the heli was back in the air. Seems this time he tweaked the feathering shaft or main gear, as there is a slight wobble on the head but still flyable.
just thought I'd share his first day experiences with the rest of the group!
