RE: What uprades can I make for HPI R40 Hara edition?
I said 70ish with a .12 engine tops, if I remember correctly! You can gear it to the moon and it will go as fast as your engine has torque for. Out of the box top speed is about 55, because it's for track racing. you could make it do 100 easily with the right engine and gearing, and I absolutely beieve it can be done with the NT1 as it has one of the lightest chassis and most efficient belt system. Honestly, this thing rolls unbelievably and the rotating mass of the drivetrain is incredibly low.
Also I understand why 'got to 100' said what he did, but it's not entirely correct, I have options in my kit for 1:1 overdrive ratio, 100% drivetrain efficiency, so I can simply whack them on if I want, plus I can correct any difference in overdrive ratio with tire diameter changes. Its true though, the racing cars aren't deigned to hit insane speeds, they are designed for cornering.
Also when pushing from the back, a front one-way will negate any overdrive difference, it's when pulling from the front that you lose some efficency or when pushing from the back with a solid front diff. Basically, the only way to have as close to 100% drivetrain efficiency is to have tires of the same diameter and a 1:1 overdrive ratio, or to have it pushing from the back a little and a front one-way. Wouldn't be a good idea though to put a front one-way in a speed runner as you lose front braking (not good at those kinda speeds!!), and besides it's a cornering tool. Better to put solid diffs front and rear, a 1:1 overdrive pulley and tires of equal diameter front and rear.
