That is the classic Tamiya issue, the DMD Units are over priced, at least from my point of view.

The model's construction cost is at:

http://web.mac.com/ksoc/iWeb/Special...zer%20III.html

Other DMD cost effective options:

1. Some have found good deals on Tiger DMD units on ebay.

2. Some long time modelers have bought a new Tiger kit, kept the DMD Units and other rc parts and resold the kit on ebay as a static kit.

3. Plug and play Tamiya infrared PZ III; share your DMD Tiger I or King Tiger Units with your PZIII.

Your PZIII can share the DMD Units and the transmitter with your Tamiya Tiger I or King Tiger, since you can only drive one tank at a time on battle days, why not.

Inside the PZ III, change the turret rotation motor wire leads to a Tamiya DMD connector. Now all you have to do is install the 2 DMDs (buy a second receiver, matching crystal and TBU set), plug in the battery to a Y connector, plug in the turret rotation motor, plug in the TBU and LED Emitter, place the DMD switch and the model is ready to go.

Takes less than a couple of minutes to install and reinstall after you have gone though the initial build (see this web site for build approaches:
