Sounds like reconstructive surgery!
With all the cool choices in radio gear, it can be difficult to choose. Just remember what we had available in the 70's and 80's worked. The choices today are more about feature set and far less about model 'rekitting'.
Please document what you've done with before and after with photos. It's a great learning tool to see the great techniques you've deployed to build. And any reason to buy more tools like a lathe is a good reason!
Thanks for sharing. Even though I'm anxious, I agree with Alan - take your time and make it right.
