Default RE: Buying a DA50

Kevin, How many DL50's do you have and what are they in?
I have one DL50 and it is in a Chip Hyde Vision with a Chip Hyde canister muffler---More important is how many DA50's I've had and the headaches associated with them...I've personally owned two and my flying buddy has two. Since I'm the one wrenching on his planes I'm the one that has had to work on those too...That's four DA50's that I've essentially have "owned".

Although DA has worked on the issue with engines quitting at low throttle the problems haven't been completely resolved...My guess is that since the DL50 has a different reed block assembly the DA50's quitting at low throttle issues are associated with this...Additionally, DA still hasn't resolved the mid-range burble and the failure to be able to richen up the engine with their chosen carb...Another buddy that I know got so fed up with his engine that he finally got rid of it....The burble was killing him in certain 3D manuevers....And the engine would lean out at the upper throttle settings at times...

Although the DL50 engine is called a DA50 clone---If you look very closely there are few, if hardly any, parts that will interchange with the DA50...In other words, the DL50 engine is not a carbon copy of the DA50...The cylinder heads are different as the fins aren't cast the same---The crankcase, well that's obvious....The reed blocks are totally different---Point being is that there are enough differences with the two engines to explain why they run so differently.....
