Well here I was obviously mistaken. For many years in every club I have ever been a member of, it was interpreted that the AMA membership was required to fly at a club (AMA insured) field, however a social membership could be made in a club. I have never been in a club whereby officers were not AMA members, which if you are familar with the club paperwork you know that cannot happen, since the AMA sends you a list of verified AMA members to compare to your role and ask for officers to be listed with address and AMA number.
I personally now see this as something that has the potential to be a problem and something that some people may not be aware of. Of course I know it is in the rules, but like most I may have over read it, or taken someone else's interpretation of it.
I am glad you asked the question JC, and appreciate Hoss digging it out and straightening me out on this fact. Makes it easier to require AMA membership at the club field now.
