leaning to fly
hi guys
ive just got back from my 2nd flying lesson and it went Great!
the first lesson, Rob Smith (my instructor) checked the plane over, took it up, let me fly some oval circuits and then he landed it (i flew it around for about half an hour, by which time the light was fading and it wasnt worth refilling the tank for another go)
anyway, this time he took me through some of the procedures from the BMFA A scheme, he let me start the engine, taxi it to the end of the runway, takeoff (the nosewheel usually dug in and flipped it, but 3rd time lucky :P) and it lifted off near the end of the runway, i banked it round and put a bit of height on, dropped the throttle back to about 2/3 and did some figure 8's, rectangular circuits and flyovers.
i dropped the throttle a bit low a few times when i turned into the downwind leg i got into a stall once or twice, but i kept it straight as i could and i recovered from it
then he told me to come in a bit lower and cut the throttle as i turn to fly over the runway, so about 20-25 feet from the runway he said "loose a bit more altitude and touch down on the grass (runway)" so i came lower but i wasnt lined up parallel with the runway so i came in at a sort of angle, a quick blip of throttle now and then to keep the nose up but as i touched it down the nose wheel dug in and the prop hit the ground and stalled (how embarassing :P)
anyway, thats todays tall tale, hopefully next thursday i will practice the A shceme manauevors a bit more, (Rob later suggested a loop or maybe barrell roll to make it a bit more interesting)
