RE: Seamaster Mods
Have been flying the ACE ARF for some time now....have done a number of mods. They work for me and I have attached a couple of pics.
Please contain your envy when you see the colour scheme. I love hot Pink & Purple (LOL)
I originally had a .46 OS, but last year have Saito .72 mounted. I am much more pleased with the Saito. Quiet and reliable. Moved the receiver switch to behind wing on top of fuse after I had a few shorts (I had it mounted under wing, silly me). Have no charger jack, avoiding liability, and just remove wing when required to charge. Worth the effort.
I made a new engine pod for the tank, sanded some blue insulation and then covered with fibreglass sheets a number of times. Has a 14 oz tank, which I like. Was sort of worried about weight of extra fuel, but my fear was unfounded. Also put NiMH 2500 onboard to ensure my flight time would not be impeded now that I was lugging all that liquid.
The darn floats at wing tips were source of frustration. Water force is powerful, and is no surprise that they got ripped off on a recurring basis if I did touch and goes, or a landing that was less than graceful. Tried a number of things, but settled on making a seamless join with covering. I abuse this puppy now, and never have wings dig in and rip off float.
Perhaps my larger pod and wing floats dont look the best, but this puppy is a working mans plane. Great flyer, no more maintance, long flights, touch and goes without worry of wings. Why I should fly anything else is presently beyond me. I'm good for a couple of more years with this rig....
