Good for you! Not the crash, but helping out someone with a simular interest. Since I have soloed I have put my kids on the buddy box as often as they will come to the field.
When we get a spectator and one of us has a buddy box we try to get them to give it a whirl. Some have a natural knack for it others really struggle. Both can pose issues as the ones that struggle you constantly have to correct. Ones that have a knack you can easily let your guard down.
As a side note I wouldn't try to teach anyone to land with my limited experience teaching. My theory is to get them hooked into flying and let them get there own plane to learn to land. As the altitude decreases so does recoverability.
