I usually just wedge mine in with foam or if that is not an option I wrap it in the thin shipping foam, then wrap that with clear packing tape and glue it in the desired location with shoe goo.
The rubber band will last a reasonably long time but when it changes from good to bad it will happen very quickly, so check it often.
