Default charging an empty cell with ice

hi.
i have an onboard glow with 1 cell nicd 2000mah . the plane left for a long time aside and parhaps the cell went completely empty.i measure the voltage with a polymeter and says 1.27v .
then i tryied to charge it with ice but when the ice starts i get the message : cell voltage is higher than it should be.check and correct the parameters. or something like that.
althought that it says 1.27v the meter , when i connect a glow plug there is no glow.the parameters is:
0.9v /cell disharge
1 cell
nicd
1.0amp charge
2000mah
what can i do?
i assume that the charger trying to charge a completely empty cell with 1.00amp, the voltage required for that current is very low and thats why i get the message.i tryyed to change the number of cells to 2 for a few minites so to raise a litle the battery and everythink was ok. the ice starts to deliver 1.00amp and after 5 minites i stoped and change to 1 cell. then the ice starts again and everything was ok.
am i wright or wrong?
can i do something else?
how can i bypass this ice message due to completely empty cells?
is there any damage to the cell as it charged at 1.00amp from completely empty?
thanks
