Can I skin with balsa wood? or is this to weak for a boat like this? Not looking for any fast running with this wt. I have a foam mold made now Total wt. of Battery, motor, servos and RX 6LBS plus 4LBS for just the boat. I will test it with about 10LBS of wt. to see how it floats.
Please show us a picture of the foam hull.
There are several ways to go about this:
- cover the hull with glasscloth and epoxy, once it's smooth, plank the hull with mahogany veneer (or whatever wood you like) and sela it with another coat of glasscloth and epoxy,
This way you will have made a sandwich that is very light and strong and should run with a light motor/battery set-up.
Most of the foam can be removed, just leave enough for boyancy in case disaster strikes.
- only use glasscloth and epoxy to cover the foam until you've build up sufficient thickness, paint the hull and finish with a nice wooden deck, etc.
