You might end up by needing the weight to get the boat down to the waterline for a more scale look.
I don't know how you are about that but the scale boaters that I've met like to get them as scale as possible when running at scale-like speeds including the depth of the hull being correct. To me, if you have to add weight you might as well make the weight useful.
