That motor should work fine. It wouldn't be as fast as a mamba 8000kv with stock components, but it will have a lot more torque and longer run time also. If you give it a 3-4s lipo (be careful with your esc..) and gear it right it could be just as fast and a 8k mamba and run cooler too.
gearing is where i'm totally lost. If I get brushless i'll def. get a brushless esc to go with it. I wouldn't even know where to start figuring out gearing. Are there any formulas to use?
